This “site visit” is a conversation with Joe Carsello, Senior Talent Buyer at the Metro in Chicago, an 1,100 capacity general admission rock club. We pull together all the bits and pieces we’ve learned about in previous workshops to see how they interact in the real world. The story starts with the venue’s history and journey to one becoming one of the country’s premiere and iconic venues. We’ll then look at the programming mission, production capabilities, and the flow of a typical show day. Along the way we’ll touch on marketing, show expenses and much more. A conversation about the Metro wouldn’t be complete without an overview of internationally renowned SmartBar, and a look at the struggles of live music venues during the pandemic.

Virtual Tip Jar

If you find value in the workshops, and have the means, I’d greatly appreciate a tip to keep this workshop machine running. I will donate a portion of all proceeds to help roadies out of work during the pandemic. Thank you!

Jen Kellogg

I’ve spent over 25 adventurous years in the concert industry as a roadie, educator and entrepreneur. Sometimes I’m one part of the large machine that gets a huge show on stage for an arena full of excited fans. Other times I’m teaching the next generation of our industry so they can further their own careers. At all times my goal is to make memorable experiences with great people while bringing a little extra joy and value to people’s lives.
